How we handle information when you use the site.
This page describes how The Rosary handles information when you use the website. We collect as little as possible and do not send your prayer settings or stats to any server.
Data controller
The data controller for The Rosary website is the organisation behind The Rosary. If you have questions about how your data is processed, start by reading the information on this page. If you wish to lodge a complaint, you can contact the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
What we collect
Browser settings (localStorage). Language, mysteries and advanced prayer settings are stored locally under the key rosenkransen:v1. Prayer stats are stored locally under rosenkransen:stats:v1. The data remains until you clear browser data. It is not synced between devices. Read more under How it works.
Session storage (sessionStorage). If you dismiss an optional share prompt, that is stored temporarily under the key rosenkransen:share-dismissed until you close the browser tab.
Visit statistics (Umami). We use Umami for aggregated statistics about page visits, for example which pages are viewed and roughly how many visitors the site has. The tool runs on our own server, is cookie-free and does not identify you as a person over time in the way marketing tracking does.
What we do not do
- We have no login or user accounts.
- We do not send your settings or prayer stats to our server.
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not use marketing cookies or ad tracking.
Cookies and similar technology
The Rosary does not set tracking cookies for marketing or profiling. Umami, which we use for visit statistics, is cookie-free.
Settings and stats are stored instead in the browser's localStorage and sessionStorage. That is similar technology to cookies in the sense that information is saved on your device, but it is done so the site works as you expect, not to follow you across websites.
Why we process data
Functional storage. We save your choices in the browser so the guide, language and stats work the next time you visit. This is needed for the service you use.
Legitimate interest. Aggregated visit statistics help us understand whether the site is used and improve it over time, without building profiles of individual visitors.
Third parties
The website is hosted on our own server in the EU (Finland). Visit statistics are collected with Umami, which also runs on our own server. We do not share your locally stored settings or prayer stats with any third party.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to:
- receive information about how your data is processed (this page),
- erase locally stored data by clearing site data or cookies/localStorage in the browser,
- object to processing based on legitimate interest,
- lodge a complaint with IMY.
Because we have no accounts and do not store your settings on the server, we cannot delete them for you centrally. Instead, clear browser data for en.rosenkransen.se if you want to remove everything stored locally.
Changes
We may update this page if the website changes, for example if we add new functionality that affects privacy. Last updated: 8 September 2026.
